電位差、微孔數
常見的很多鍍層裝飾件，如汽車的保護條，通常是用多層鎳（Ni）+鍍鉻（Cr）層的工藝。多層鎳中，半光亮鎳鍍層作為光亮鍍鎳的必備打底層，其性能直接影響獲得的鍍層的性能，如抗腐蝕的特殊要求，因此多層鎳中各鎳層的電位差常為評估指標納入廠商和買家的相關標準中。
說到多層鎳，就不得不提鎳封顆粒數了。
鎳封實際是一種復合鍍層，是在光亮鎳中加入二氧化硅或碳酸鋇等不導電微米級顆粒，在實際應用中對鍍層起到防腐作用。但這些鎳封顆粒并不全都起到防腐效果，根據經驗只有10%的鎳封顆粒有這種作用，那就是常說的活性點，而微孔數（微裂紋數）測試就是為了驗證有多少正常工作的鎳封顆粒數。
